Hey folks, I hit three spots in WV today, found some points, scrapers, flake tools on each site. I also found a large stone piece that's worked to an edge on three sides and has a notch pecked out near the middle on the top. Not sure what this beast is, any ideas? It needs to be cleaned up and the edgework is hard to see, but it's worked bifacially to an edge on three sides. big chopper?

Is it sandstone?

It appears to be Tn, it's a coarse, grainy stone. I need to clean it up to see if I can find any more clues.

It does look like a beast. I found a really big worked rock Sat also and need to go get it out of the boat and look at it. You guys are making this forum very educational. Its also good to see a post where you are showing scrapers and big flakes as well. Lot to be learned in them.
Thanks Thirty7

I'm thinking it's a chopper, no idea why the piece was notched, possible handle / grip I suppose? You're right this forum is an invaluable tool for information and education. I've learned as much here in a few months then in a few years of collecting and researching, and for that I thank you all. I'd like to take a gander at that big worked rock if you get a pic of it. Post it in here if you want.

Ok give me a sec I will go get it out of the boat and shoot a quick pic.Its a honker ..lol

Nice flake tools you got there. I have found a few really large choppers that I have not posted yet. I am on a job traveling right now, so i will post them here after the weekend. I am guessing that indians would make the choppers sometimes for one use only, then discard the tool so they wouldnt have to carry it around. I'm guessing that before it was made into a chopper, it was a good piece to make work of. Great pics, thanks for sharing...

Ok I found this off of shell trash pits. I thought it might be a digger. I think now it may be just a rock. I seem to see some edge work but it is questionable ? Not defined blows though it seems to be forming an edge. I think its a rock !! Just a rock. Well so this is not just some bad pictures here is the second largest blade or sword found in Tennessee. It was found in three parts and restored.
It is not mine but a friends. It was found not far from my house in a little ancient creek. My G/F is holding it so I could take a pic. It is rated in size just under the duck river cache in size, (2 ft) Enjoy !

appreciate it abarnard, feel free to post in here, I agree with you about one off tools, it might of been a butcher site away from the main village. With a sharp edge and a solid thrust this thing could get through small bones.

Tn, the material in that piece is tough to read, but I can see some bifacial edgework I think. Maybe some type of chopper or crude axe? Man that sword is incredible! thanks for posting that beauty. I'd need a ambulance stat if I walked up on that monster. Fresh pair of trousers too.
