Got 2 silver but I can't find one of 'em

I brought them both back to my house but I can't find the 1945 Quarter I found , gotta be around here somewhere. My friend and I got out to do some freshwater hunting over the weekend and I found a 1945 Quarter and the Merc. pictured below. Would you clean it up? How would you do it?

Good luck finding the quarter, maybe you can use your metal detector to find it, lol! I know nothing about cleaning coins but its safe to try some toothpaste or some metal polish on it.

Try some baking soda,wet on your finger and rub gently.I lost a silver rosie last year and now I'm extra careful with my good finds.

oh uurrghhhha hope you find it. is kinda weird i just read something somewhere where this guy brings either an empty pill bottle or film cannister with abit of cotton in the bottom of it to keep his treasures (better finds) safe till he gets home. hope ya find it... HH tlc

Hope you find that quarter again. I have been cleaning my silvers by letting them soak in natural lemonjuice until you can get the dirt of with a q-tip.

Here we go again.... Normal rule of thumb is (don't clean your coins). It can make the value of your coins go down. More so if you dig a valuable coin. If the coin is not that valuable and you don't care about value. Then there are thousands of ways to clean your silver coins. From electrolysis to toothpaste. I keep all my good finds in my change pocket (that little pocket above your main pocket) so I don't lose them. I'll bet if you backtack your steps with your metal detector you'll find that quarter again in no time.

I bought on of these only bigger at the local Casey's store. The one I bought is between 2 and 2 and a half inches across. I put some cotton inside it. Now when (if) I find a good coin I drop it into this and screw the top on. You won't loose it that way.

Thanks for all the info everyone I should have been clearer, I didn't lose the coin out in the field, I misplaced it somewhere around the house after I showed it to the wife and kids

How young are your kids? My 3 year old took a barber dime off of my computer desk one time after I cleaned it up and showed it to my wife.It took a few minutes to find it, it was next to the entertainment center.Gotta watch those youngsters.

Dug 4 Mercs at an old school recently...No key dates...They were nasty dirty...The next week, went to put them with some other stuff in the tumbler...Only had three! No little kids!
