Went and checked out a new field a couple weeks back. It was pretty cold so I had to do the coveralls and face mask but it ended up being well worth it. (I've never posted on here but figured I'd start)

Part of it is a Hell Gap site I found (1 nearly full point and 3 fragments) and a few others are Folsom preforms. 20190115_122533.webp20190115_122552.webp20190115_122647.webp

Welcome to the forums. What materials are they made from?

Mostly Knife River Flint but also a Hell Gap point fragment made from white Swan River Chert and maroon porcellanite.

Gasp! Amazing stuff.

Wow , I don’t think any weather conditions could keep me from spending a lot of time at that site. There’s a few really beautiful pieces in there I love the material

Very nice. Great site!!

Welcome mw!!!

Put up tents. Work under the tents! Those pieces are gorgeous!

Are these all surface finds or are you digging and sifting ? Would love to see any of your other finds too, especially if they resemble these ones

I found them near New Town, ND in the western half of the state. Ground is frozen solid right now so all I can do is surface hunt..... I even have to bring a knife along to pry some pieces off the ground. I will post some more stuff I've found over the last 20 years.

Here is an exceptional Oxbow point made from heavily patinated petrified wood. It is 2 1/8" long. Found in Mountrail County, ND back around 2003.20190109_091824.webp20190109_091842.webp

:hello: Welcome to TNET!

Really nice pieces there! :icon_thumright: It looks like by what you are finding it is a nice piece of ground to hunt. My guess is that your site is not too far from the Missouri River.
That KRF is always a welcome find. I have found it over near where my grandparents settled in north-eastern Montana. I have also found a few artifacts here in central Montana made with the KRF material.

I've thought about doing that smokey.....just need to get up the ambition. The ground is like a rock right now![emoji16]

Nice ones! I love material from up in that area.
Thanks joshua! I've been mostly metal detecting for the last 5 years and just started head hunting again.....glad I did!
