Hello Everyone

I hope this is the right place for me to ask. I Have always wanted to go out and start hunting for some treasure ever since I was a little tyke. I live in central Florida now and am ready to jump in HEAD FIRST. Only problem is I don't have a clue about what to buy and where to go. I will be primarily using the detector at the beach here. What is the best detector for Florida beaches and the best place to buy them? So many accessories, which do I buy? Lastly I was thinking about hitting the treasure coast first, is this a good idea? Are those areas a waste of time? I hear that they are constantly searched and I am like busting at the seems to go and start but at the same time don't want to set myself up for failure...Please help me, thank you

Start with a detector that is easy to use. I like the Whites new Matrix M6 for $600 . If you can't afford that much the Whites prizm line or Garret Ace 250 for around $300 .

hello
thank you for that. I have read on the M6, seems pricey but I hear it is great. Would you happen to know off hand what are the main differences between the M6 and the prizm?

I read that the M6 is automatic which sounds nice are there any less expensive models that are as well? Is there a depth difference? How deep does a detector typically read to?
thank you again

Were about in Fl. im in ocala for a beginer and inexpencive ace 250 bt Garrett is a lot for the money and very popular if your planing on going into the water id get a water machine a little more a250 will go for 199

normally i would recommend the garrett ace 250 since it is so much machine for the money, however.....not in this case! the ace 250 doesnt like salt water. it will do fine in the dry sand but in the wet sand it will start falsing and will drive you crazy. its just not designed for salt water.land, yes, salt water, no. that being said,i think you would do good by looking for a machine with a salt elimination feature and maybe even a water machine that wont get messed up if it gets wet.the only thing is you are going to pay for a machine like that.maybe someone around here knows of an inexpensive machine that would excel at the beach?.......i hope the metal detector companies are reading!!! WE NEED AN INEXPENSIVE WATER DETECTOR!!

Get the Ace 250. Great for Parks & School Grounds and can be used on the beach.
If only going for treasure, forget it.
Sold detectors and 95% ended up in the closet.
If looking for fun and great exercise get a detector.
Check this page to compare Ace 250 & Prizm II finds.

Good Luck

Since you will primarily be at the beach, have you thought about a water detector? You might want to move from beach to shallow water hunting. Whatever you choose, take the time to learn it. Good luck, Eric

For general detecting a good machine for either beach, park and relic hunting I would recommend the Minelab Sovereign. They are not affected by wet salty sand at the beach and handle mineralised ground better than most. No matter what machine you finish up with ask experienced detectorists in your area what they are using and recommend. Enquire at local detecting clubs, and also try before you buy, dont be in a hurry, pick carefully.
Have a look at some detector review sites,
Http: //metaldetectorreviews.net or www. Minelabowners.com or

http ://www.djsdetectors.com good luck on your choice seeya Neilo ;D

Thank you all for the response.

I will be using it mostly at the beach and I will prefer to use it in shallow water beachfront. So From what everyone is saying is that i should be looking at the Ace 250, Prizm II, and the Minelab Sovereign.

Is treasure hunting at Florida beaches a total lost cause? Is it safe to say that everytime you go out you should at least fiond something (jewerly, etc.?)
Florida when I am does not have many parks where I can go, any other suggestions for inland as well?
Can you bring a detector to a Statepark? and do they get mad when you start digging?
Thanks sorry for the 50 questions.

Digger Gabe I am in the Davenport area.

Hey guys

Surfmaster PI Pro or the Matrix M6, for shaller water?
