Wow, gorgeous buckle. How do you date it? What's it's context, how was it used - belt buckle?

there are some sites that you can buy these buckles remanufactured for reinactment's and i matched this up acording to there guide and this a actual shoe buckle used, i knew when i dug it up it had to be at least 1840's but had no idea it was this old, to say the least this is one of my oldest finds to date!
