Grandpa's Collection--Missouri finds

Grandpa found most of these big "tools" in Missouri--around the Springfield/Strafford area. He had family that lived there and he used to go back for family reunions and look the fields in that area.
Are these things tools? or maybe preforms? and what is the white/gray material called from Missouri?
Also in this post are his manos and abrading stones(is that the right description?)(found in Okla/Kansas).
Thanks for looking and any info you all might have! kind regards, sandcreek4

Re: Grandpa's Collection--Missouri finds

hey sandcreek, your grandpa did some really good hunting, all his frames you've shown are impressive. Imo you have a mix of tools and some preforms in the first pic. Most tools like scrapers, adzes, celts, etc. are much thicker than a preform. Preforms are basically an arrowhead or spearpoint in its first unnotched stage. The white, off white is probably Burlington chert, a widely used material and naturally found in Missouri. This is just my opinion, hope it helps a little, nice collection you've inherited.
