After seeing all the great finds you guys are making at the "trash pit" (wish I knew where that was at) ;D I decided to get out and hit the woods today before they get too grown over. So I went back to a place both Brett and I had pounded pretty good last year. The finds there slowed down then so we moved on to greener pastures.
I figured the growth would be less this time of year, and boy was I right. The first signal was the
'17 Walker. So as I'm dialing Brett's # I look down and see the Buffalo laying in the bottom of the hole. Sweet!

So we're talking for 5 mins or more, (as I'm freaking out) and I tell him, "hold on, while I probe the hole". Nothing in the hole, but get a screamer at the edge. I look down and see the quarter laying there,,, I thought I had my first SLQ along with my first Walker, but I really didn't know what they were or would be, until I washed them off at home. I knew the Buff was a '17 at the time, so was just hoping throughout the day, they would be.
As I was rinsing off the quarter I was a bit disappointed to see the Barber head and not my 1st SLQ,
until I saw the date. Holy Cow, please be an S !! I turn it over slowly and it's a plain. Oh well, I can't complain after the day I just had. :icon_pirat:
Ended up with 7 wheats, '18 '36 '39 '44 '50-d 2-'58-d

Close to the end of my hunt, I met a Gentleman "hunting" for wildlife with a 400mm telescopic lens.
He was kind enough to take my picture holding my stash, and email it to me. But he had to get at least 100 yards away to be able to focus. Thanks Gordon!
Here's a link to some nice photo work by him.

Hope you guys made some great finds today!

Great and amazing finds, John!!!

Big silver is a winner! :o

Nice pic - I see your probe is dangling. :tard:

Great finds! I wouldn't be so upset not getting an SLQ with finds like those... Nice photo as well. Quite a get up you got going there.

The Walking Liberty and a Barber, Fantastic finds! Great story! Thanks for sharing.

Awesome job buddy!!! That was a great hole for sure!!! :icon_pirat:

The real deal! And on top of that, next year's White's calendar guy.....

Great hunt John!

Gosh, when you called I yelled silver to you... but you had said something about it being a first for you and that you wished it was a SLQ but it wasn't... so I knew it was a Half Dollar! Huge congrats on your first WALKER!!! And that 1917 walker as a first is KILLER!

When you were on the phone and said there's a quarter in the hole with it I was freaking out. I was thinking please let it be an SLQ and not another BBQ. So it looks like I have all the SLQs and you have all of the BBQs!!!!! wanna trade? :) That's mighty sweet lookin' 1901! and almost a really high value coin.

That's about a $1000 camera and $1200 camera lens Gordon has... but a shot of you on the day you found your first Walker is priceless! Good thing you ran into him. He takes some nice shots on his site too! Wish I was that good with my Nikon D300.

CONGRATS!!!!!!

CONGRATS ON YOUR FIRST WALKER AND THE REST OF YOUR FINDS,WTG!

Geeze John!!

Two nice big ones . . . and old to boot!
Excellent recoveries!!

Sweet finds LF56. That hunt must have put you on MDing cloud 9. Keep it up

Wow that hole was definitely worth diggin. Thats awesome when you start pulling out coin after coin out of one hole, and big silvery ones like that. Yeah that get up looks like your ready to do battle with some old coins. WTG :icon_thumright:

Wow, what a day, John! Great coins! What coil are you using on the DFX?

You look like a superhero in that last photo. We need to make a character for you on our Xtranormal superhero animation series.

What a great variety, and big silvers on top of it. A dream day for sure!

Thanks Joe,
My last 4 silver I've gone back to my 6x10 DD, and running straight 3kz. I can air test
my silver ring at 12-14" with that set-up. Running sens. high and staying really stable
or quiet also.
As far as the getup,, I like to be able to go through the stickers or brambles without giving
it a second thought. ;D Don't forget the dangling probe on my character. :laughing7:
Leave it to Neil to notice that, right? :laughing7:

Congratulations on a great (Big) Silver day buddy
