DFX, COMPASS SCANNER,
what a day, i had a couple hours so i walked across the street, I got permission last night from the neighbor, she said go for it. I went towards the back of the house at first, there must be a million jar lids and burnt trash to beat all. So I move over to the other side and I get a reading 81 and when i pinpointed it didnt blast my ears off so Im thinking great, reads about six inches so i dig my plug pull it out and I see this small small small coin like thing, I pick it up and rub a little and see a hole, now im thinking its a charm off a bracelet or something so I put in my goody pocket and move on. Not much else but trash and a spoon and then this deal that has a arrow shape to it. My back is killing me from all those jar lids and crap so i walk home. I start gently cleaning off the dirt on this coin and I dont see anything Im disapointed now, so I show old girl and she sais she can see something, well i rubbed a little harder and wow I couldn't believe it a 3 center, I never imagine how small these coins are, no wonder they got lost, so I can check that one off. Happy dance and all that, she hates it when I get all glowy and cocky, but who cares, Im having a ball. Im putting a couple of pictures of the area I have around my house to hunt. I have alot of ground I have gotten permission but havent had time to hit much of it yet. First the house I detected today then the yard next to mine between me an the Maclay home which I own and rent to my army buddy. Its a trailor house but it has a double lot, my house sits on a double lot and was built in1869 and was a slave quarters when built. The mayclay home was built in1858, these two were about all there was on this block back then. Then across the street and down one block is the town square where I found my U S buckle a couple months ago, There was several thousand troops camped out all over these couple of blocks, then there is two fields across from that I have permission to detect plus a couple more homes across the street from the maclay home. So I am in heaven here. It has been hit alot in the past but they didn't get it all and I got nothing but time. If I ever learn how to get this DFX to do what I want then look out. Sorry for ramblin on. Anyone has a idea what this arrow thing is let me know please and someone tell me how to clean up this 3 center a little better so I can at least make out the date, Im pretty sure its a 185?, its pretty worn down but I dont care, it looks like a million to me. Thanks for looking. HH JYD

That is a great find. Doesn't it kill you that even with the tiniest of coins they punched those holes in them !

I like it .Still a nice find.

Hey, That coin is actually not in bad shape. Drop it in heated hudrogen peroxide and all that crud should flake right off. It's NOT going to hurt the coin. I did it with my 1783 25-83A,(on the banner) Then you can see your prize! Congratulations. My brother in law (digginitRTB), found a 3 center on our first hunt of the yr. in NY state. Those things ARE tiny! Good Luck and HH...........The Hogge

WTG on the 3 center JYD. Nice history on the old place. HH Ron

Nice finds JYD!!

Congrats on the 3 center! I'm not a coin purist - so I think the hole gives it character and makes it a more interesting find.

With all that prime territory to hunt - I'd be having a ball, too.

No clue what the pointy thing is, but it would look good cleaned up with a tea light candle behind it...

Congrats on the 3 cent piece  looks like some good detail under the crud. Good luck if you decide to clean it, I think the holed coins have a special something to them like kimsdad said.

I was told once that the way to cure chronic nose bleeds is to wear a silver coin around your neck. This might explain them holes. ;D

From what I understand of Victorian culture through extensive examination of various cultural manifestations in relation to others, is that the Victorians may perceive this silver coin talisman remedy as a way to take more medicine, i.e. "do more blow".
RIGHT ON!!!!

NICE RARE COIN. BEST OF LUCK.
