This green ceramic pot was received by a relative as a gift 40 years ago. It is 9 1/2" high.

Does anyone have any ideas as to its origin? The ceramic and pottery board is very inactive.

The style of the container is much older than the recent paint job. My guess is there is a beautiful early American cobalt glaze underneath. Some styles and makers are worth 100's or even thousands. Or it could be plain, of which is still desirable. You may decide to strip the paint off and see what's underneath. It shouldn't hurt the original appearance and can drastically increase value.

Looks like a cookie jar.

Thank you for the advice. Any recommendations as to what solvent would work best to remove the paint?
