green gunk on silver halves....

The last time I went to the casino to search halves, I notices that a LOT of them had a green waxy film on the outside. Anyone know if this is common or what it is a result of?

I am not a numismatic sort of guy, so I would appreciate the input if this is some way of preserving coins that I do not know about...

Most likley PVC damage. Some plastics contain PVC and silver doesn't like it. I've found several 40% halves that had it on them too.

Immy would know if it has to do with casinos....Might to try to e-mail him in case he hasn't seen this post...

Hmm, I've never seen casino halves with any kind of green film. Some casinos have been known to wash their coins to make them appear shinier. Could that be the culprit?
