I am a senior (71) originally from Eastern Europe who has been always interested in the beauty of objects and how they were made but my collecting was limited to a once a year trip to antique center/fleamarket in Adamstown PA. and foraging for things on vacations. Two years ago we had to get rid of my girlfriend's 1950's pink cast iron tub and since no one responded to postings the contractors broke it in pieces. I visited a local scrap yard to find out how much they would pay for it and while there I looked around. I was astonished how many useful and sometimes very old items end on the heap and before day's end in the container going to the port to be loaded on ships to China, India. I have become a weekly regular at this place and rescued all kinds of amazing stuff (a lot from the brass bin). So basically I am a different kind of digger, everything is paved in one of the boroughs of NYC where I live, but I do have access to certain things people bring up from the basements or house liquidators dump because they do not pay importance to it.
TN looks like a fun and useful site and a great place to learn so I am looking forward to participating.
