Detector(s) used
Tesoro Cibola, Prizim IV, BHID, GTAX 400, GTA 350, and a few others
Ok I have a couple different models of metal detectors. I came across a great deal for this metal detector which was "new" only used once for a demo and put away and collected dust. I took it out for the first time and it is very noisy. It chirps with every swing and I have even turned down the depth (sensitivity) to almost nothing. Anyone have any suggestions or a common problem with this detector. I was going to sell my gta 350 when I bought this detector, and I am glad that I have not done so. I love my gta 350 and I find that it out performs my other higher priced machines! Thanks for any help!

Try this

Make sure the Coil plug in the back of the electronics box is tight. Make sure the coil wire is secured and not moving independently, which the coil will sense and beep. Make sure the batteries are fresh and putting out a desired voltage. Take a pencil eracer, and clean off all the points on the battery clips and the insice where the battery holders get inserted against those two contact points.

If this doen't help.......don't buy it.

Thanks for the tips. I have done everything except two of your suggestions, I will make sure the wire is really tight around the stem. I usually leave that kind of loose but in this case it may make a difference. I will also try the eraser on the contact points. Hopefully this helps so I am not out of my money!

Thanks again unfortunately I had already purchased the unit. I have tried the tips but with no success. I guess off to the closet with this one and bring the prizm back out. I have not had good luck with depth with the prizm! Anyone else have any other tips before I retire this unit ???

It might be a problem with the coil. Have you contacted Garrett?

No I have not contacted Garrett yet have you had to deal with them with customer service yet. I also don't want to find out that I have to drop $100 dollars down on repairs to purchase a new coil. Guess that I will have to contact them....I guess I was hoping that it was some easy fix :)

I've only had to contact customer service twice in the 8 years I've had my 400. Both times were for replacement battery holders which they sent free of charge. Now, obviously we're talking about something a little more extensive than battery holders. I would call and talk to a service tech and describe the problem to them. Good luck.
