I have a chance to buy a Garrett GTI 2000, a 1998 model, for $225 or less. I don't know anything about these machines, but new in '98 it was around $950. Has the technology changed so much that it is outdated? Do electronics "go bad"? I wonder if it's one of those "sounds to good to be true" situations, or if it's a steal at that price. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, TMH

Many years ago, my brother had a 2000. He sent it to Garrett and they provided some internal upgrades that made it 'equivalent' to the 2500. They probably still do that for a fee.

Having said that, I also have to say, yes it is outdated, and yes, electronics do go bad. Witness the number of circuit cards replaced in various computers over the years.

However, the 2000 for a little over the price of the Ace 250 has to still be a reasonable purchase IF the machine still functions.

Best of luck whatever your decision.

Garrett can do an upgrade to make into a 2500 for a price give them a call first to see how much.
