I found this today pretty sure its a trigger, ive found other flint lock parts in the same spot, what I was wondering was, can anybody tell maybe what gun it was based off the shape of the trigger or were they all somewhat standard

It looks more like a shift lever out of an old 3 speed English bicycle, similar to this one:

Rough shape but quite likely a trigger. No way to tell what it is from though.

Maybe a trigger to an old friction sparkler gun ?

thanks for the guesses but this is from the middle of the woods in Kansas at a site with things dated to the 1820's and nothing modern no trash or anything except the stray shotgun shell. I don't think its a bicycle or a toy gun but I do see the resemblance.

... and it is iron, everything that comes up is iron except the flat buttons and lead balls

I would go with maybe a muzzleloading percussion trigger. Flintlocks were most commonly pinned through the stock but yours appears to have been hinged on the trigger-plate. Like the example below. it would depend on whether the pivot was on both sides originally and there was more of it present.

cool, thanks for the info, I have several parts of the firing mechanism now still looking for the barrel. I would think it would have made it if the other smaller pieces did.

Try soaking it in vinegar, that should remove a lot of the rust, might give you a better read on it.
