Maybe part of a thumb-latch from an old door or gate lock?

I agree with PBK.
Most decorative hammers on guns would have greater distance from pivot to striker, since this is the part that sparks the powder (flintlocks), pops the cap/nipples (muzzleloaders), or engages the primer (rimfire and centerfire). Still, I like it!!!

Thanks for the ideas. Hard to see it in the photos, but probably a little small for a door or gate latch (just over 1/2 inch wide--though the concept seems right. Perhaps part of a toy--but very solid and heavy. Got me thinking--perhaps the tab that flips a tankard lid, or something along those lines. Again, thanks for the response.
