Hey guys, been browsing here for awhile but for some reason I had never created an account till now, dont ask me why cause im not sure haha. Anyway, I wont do a huge past finds dump since some of them were a few months ago (started detecting this past spring) but I wanted to introduce myself and share a couple of my favorite finds this year. My name is Joe and I'm from Massachusetts, I'm sure some of you have seen my posts in facebook groups, also I'm in two different clubs in my area. Ive been fortunate enough to find two George Washington Inaugural Buttons so far, the first is a linked states stamp thru back variety and according to the GWI button website its R6 rarity (3-5 known examples), the second isnt quite as rare but certainly not a common find. That one is GWI #1, the eagle with "March the Fourth 1789 Memorable Era" legend. They were found at different sites but were both in chimney stacks, apparently they have good drainage or something as theyre both in incredible shape. My main reason for posting (other than just to share with those who havent seen them yet) is that I just recently cleaned the first one, I was still very much a rookie when I dug it and was not confident in my cleaning skills. I finally decided to give it a shot as I have a good amount of experience cleaning coppers and I'm very glad I did, it looks like an entirely different button now, I will include a picture from before the recent thorough cleaning. HH!
