species analysis done at paleo research lab narrowed down to 4 possible conifers from Florida
now undatable, 84% Calcium and 0 carbon left for dating

So, it could of got mineralized by the springs in Florida? It's got a spud shape. I'd have to think within the last 1000 years. Just a guess.
 
Nice piece Dan. I love the in-situ pics. in your book! Even though I live in the mid west, it helped me develop the eye for finding artifacts in waterways.

Amazing find, my uncles found an axe with the
wooden handle still attached in the 1930's, but sadly
didn't keep it.
