A friend of my brother got us permission to hunt an old 1839 plantation home in Alabama. We hit it today for a few hours. It was my brother's birthday and man did he get some nice presents!

We found what looked like a campsite near a pond and it turned up some nice silver!

All together my brother found:

1848 O Seated Liberty Half (in amazing condition)
1903 O Barber Quarter
1868 Seated Liberty Half Dime
A few wheaties and a modern quarter.

I also found what looked like a piece of melted metal. It rang 88-89 like the silver coins, but looks a little like foil. But, it is very hard and has some designs on it. Any suggestions as to what it might be?

All in all a good Birthday for my brother and a fun day for the rest of us!

Very Nice!!! Congrats!!!

That seated half is still on my bucket list and yours is amazing. I have never seen a nicer one.

The chunks of metal look a lot like the melted aluminum foil and cans from camp fires in Scout camps I detect. They usually produce a good coin signal on the CZ 21. If they are fairly light weight that’s probably what they are.

Great finds and keep swingin.

That looks like melted foil to me and that Seated half is in really nice condition. Congrats.

Truly awesome Seated Half. Great hunt!

Yeah when he pulled that out of the ground I was amazed. The soil was very good to that coin. You could see the muscle tone in her legs and the flow of her hair even before it was cleaned off.

I figured it was some sort of foil melted. There was signs of campfires in the soil. Way to light to be silver. But hey, one can dream. Lol.

WOW! that seated half is unreal....

Looks to be about uncirculated. Unbelievable. Congrats on that one! Gary

Congrats on some great coins. That Seated Half is a blazer !

That half is beautiful!!!

I'd be over the moon with that by itself. Congrats!!

Them some gorgeous silver! Looks like a great Birthday:occasion18:

Nice finds the seated half is astounding. I don't think one could be found in better condition than that!

Outstanding Seated Liberty Half! :notworthy:

I've been asked how I got the coin so clean. when it came out of the ground it was toned and obviously dirty, so I soaked it in hot water and baking soda, soaked for 15 mins then dried it with a very soft cloth. I normally don't clean or remove the coloring of the coin but this one had such fine detail I had to remove the toning. Ill post a before and after pic. Its a bucket list coin for me.
