Halves : Good News Plus a Blip?

This week's box contained what I hope is just a blip, but, if not, a disturbing trend.

I found four Ecuadoran 50 centavos pieces -- how they got into the mix is anyone's guess. I have found these coins in the past, but it was one-offs.

But now the good news -- I finally broke my 90% silver drought (I posted something a few days ago on this topic) with two 90% Kennedys and a Franklin and also found four 40% silver Kennedys.

But imagine a skunk box with those foreign coins - not good.

Anyway, I'll take the foreign junk all day if I get seven silvers in the box.

That's so weird! I got a box a few weeks ago with the same Ecuadorian 50-cent pieces in it! And it also had a good amount of silver in it, both 40%ers and 90%ers! Bizarre... I wonder if we both got boxes from some batch mixed together at some east coast federal reserve branch bank?

I forget how many Ecuadorians I found in there, probably 5 or 6 of them, because at first I was setting them aside to save (I keep all the foreigns I find, as souvenirs). But after I found a 3rd one, I decided to throw them back into circulation instead.

And I don't feel bad about it, either, because those Ecuadorian 50's are actually worth exactly 50 cents. Ecuador dollarized its currency a while back. If you're in Ecuador, two of these 50 centavo pieces will buy you a dollar.

I am with you, i would take the foreign all day to get silvers. Nice finds there.

There are quite a few countries in central and South America who have the same coins specs as the US. Balboa’s and Ecuadorean halves are ‘common’. I actually like finding foreign coins. Something different to look at.
