Hammer for flint lock? You tell me.

Found this in my little colonial hot spot. While I don't think it is a hammer for a gun. It's kind of heavy like lead but I think it may be pewter. Found it eight inches down. Almost to the top of my pin pointer. The lever still moves freely. What do you think it was or went to?
