The hammered coins are still coming. The best this afternoon being a sovereign penny of Henry VIII. Also had a cut quarter coin, and a broken one. The copper coin is Scottish 17th century, and the tiny buckle is medieval 13th/14th century. The Henry coin should clean up well, got to straighten it first though.

Robert.

Cheers Ahab8, the finds are certainly getting smaller, the sign of a well worked site :laughing7:

NICE finds! Very cool to see. It sure would be interesting to search in a place with such a LONG metal usage history..

You're certainly on your game digging the cut quarters, nice hunt once again. The Scottish copper looks like it has some nice detail left.

Hello pepperj, these Scottish coins turn up fairly frequently in Northern England.

Man you're on quite a hot streak Robert. You need to post up a nice group close-up of all those hammereds. Keep 'em coming ....

Hello Bill, here's a better picture of the Henry VIII sovereign penny. It's got a good clear mint mark of a star on both sides, this dates it to 1514-26. It's Durham mint, Bishop Wolsey (the bishop had minting rights) TW beside shield, and a hat below shield.

Nice coin & good mint.

That site just keeps giving, long may it continue. We are really struggling for hammered at the moment but Dad just made up for it.
