A friend found this coin at an estate sale. Asked me to post it for an ID. I know you guys will know what it is.

Thanks in advance. I read the rules for the forum -- I know it's mainly for MDing but didn't see that it couldn't be 'found' other places. If I'm in violation, I can move it - let me know.

Thanks,
Jason

This is a tough one. I scoured the web for a half an hour now with little to no luck. The "m" on the obverse leads me to believe Mexico mint but I can't find any similar shield types or phoenixes. The rim reminds of 1500s British currency but I could not find anything there either.

This looks like a match:
[h=2]ITALY, Kingdom of Sicily, Frederick IV, the Simple (Il Semplice), 1355-1377, AR Pierreale[/h]

M and M on either side;double annulet stops
Don.......
