Some were hafted and some may have even been mauls,
and all are personal finds. The big one was found coming
out of the ground with scattered fire rock and chips on the
surface of a low wooded terrace close to the bank of the
Tippecanoe River in Carroll County IN.

Nice Hammerstones. I too have quite a few of these tools. I know a lot of guys who won't even pick them up, but I bring home every one I see. I have a bunch set out on display in one of my cases and a bunch in boxes, plus quite a few spread out through my wife's flower gardens.

Very nice dollarzero. Thanks for the pictures.

Dollerzero , nice collection !! I believe your right , when you say some of them may have other uses . In the 3rd pic down ,it looks like a well made mano, My thought , limited to my knowledge of mano’s here in California .I have several manos with end damage , I’ve always assumed damaged by shelling/husking acorns , I may have to rethink this ?
Now man really hasn’t changed in his habits in thousands of years ,.. if ever . Now the story of your hammer-stone / mano may go something like this . A man ,years ago may have “seen” his wife’s mano on the ground and “saw” a perfect hammer-stone.......... Why, even I will take my wife’s scissors ,. . every now and then, and well ,......... same old story ,.......and many of you know how this story ends!!!!

I call it my biscuit hammerstone. It was
hammered flat all around the edge, but
is smooth on both faces.

I was thinking yesterday how the big one
was coming out of the ground vertically.
Naturally I think it would have laid on the
ground with the flat side of the oval up.
Maybe it was stored in the ground this
way as to maybe hide the campsite or so
it would not be so easily found by
somebody else?

Just to show you, these are some of the better ones. These are both hardstone and flint Hammerstones. I also have a few boxes full of them and probably 25 or so spread out around my wifes flower gardens.

Awesome stuff DollarZero.

A great hammerstone, grinder, nutting stone---I like finding them because it's still a great artifact. I pack 'em home and have crate after crate full of them from the last 15 years. I got a barn full of stuff from the 15 years before that. It's a little overwhelming with what to do with it. One day I hope to have a real artifact room to properly display my finds--just a dream now, but one day.....

Thanks for sharing!!

Hell , I’d be happy with a barn ,..... good place to hide after using my wife’s “good” scissors !!

Not the sharpest pig in the pin ,. Blindpig
