Don't think its a hand ax or artifact, cool looking rock though.
 

If it was found in a creek it could be a core that is water worn. It's one of those things that you need to look at real close. Sorry but it's not a hand axe. JMO
 

Nice flake core. Perfectly serviceable as an ad hoc chopper, but probably not specifically made to be one.

A little bit of both. The flash being on makes it seem shinier than it really is on that edge you're talking about, and that edge is a bit more battered/has more going on overall.
 

Maybe a hammer stone, but I don’t see that kind of stone around here so I’d defer to more knowledgeable folks
 

This is one of those pieces where you need to see in person. Based on pics alone, it’s questionable on being a core, tool, etc.
 

Sedimentary rock. Looks like limestone and flint layers. Gary
