Did a Tnet hunt with MetalHeadz and HighVDI this morning at a local park that was a Boys Home in the early 1900’s.

Lots of wheat pennies were popping out by the sports field and among the big old trees were the buildings once stood, but no silver coins...

Here’s my handful of wheats.

I typically don’t check the dates on wheats, but MetalHeadz was calling it a day and hanging with us when I popped a wheat that had a nice green patina so I tossed it to MetalHeadz and he says something like “dude you got a 1909 penny and I think it is a VDB”.

I noticed some copy on the little brass piece.

Unfolded it and it looks like half a token? Anyone have an ID on this?

Looks like a part from an old GE radio. Nice bunch finds. Congrats

Looks like you just hit a WHEAT FIELD of sort, nice bunch , so many in one place. Never hunted before, for that many in a place! HAPPY HUNTING

If only there were a S......

It is a vdb. Not only that it's in really great shape for being dug from the earth and 118 years old.........

Look at the detail in the wheats on the reverse and Lincoln's hair and details on the obverse.

A beautiful penny probably would grade uncirculated without the environmental damage....very cool find!

Thx. We think it was never hunted before or someone did amazing job discriminated out everything wheat and below. Our group found a whole load of wheat this morning, but no silvers, buffs, IHP’s or V’s. Maybe it was because the site was a home for poor boys and they were lucky to just have pennies. We also found lots of older copper pennies, but limited other clad.

Nice find!! That's a hard to find penny, even without the S.

Congratualtions on the nice Wheat cent recoveries!

That 1909 is in great shape! :icon_thumleft:
