Is that an " I " that I see? Very nice button. Not sure if it's the same, but maybe naval jelly? You can get it at the hardware store usually in the paint stripper section. I just bought some made by Loctite. Works great.

If there is any Gold Gilt on it the stuff brings it right out!! This thing was Nasty.

No problem...the aluminum works better than the naval....nitrile gloves and a soft tooth brush is what I use.

Hey sproatz that's a nice button, I have used aluminum jelly on buttons before. If there is any gilt left I use a qtip and gently rub it and then rinse with water and repeat if you need to. I have damaged some that didnt have much gilt left though. Hopefully more people can give some advice on cleaning

Nice find! It's best to keep it looking nice. Cleaning it always carries a risk. It's good to clean it up for your own pleasure.
Just be careful to do it slowly and in steps. No matter what you use. Too hard, too long, too strong a method and
you could wind up with a shiny piece of porous metal.
