Hello, forum detectorists, it is KirkPA. I hope you all are having the metal detecting time of your life. I must admit, it is nice to be back here with you charming detecting people. :D

Well, we did it again! We proved how hardcore we really are. Silver Zeus, zoyboy, and I got out for some good 'ole trrrreasure hunting to one of our back-up sites (the old Colonial road). But, before I elaborate on our adventure, allow me, KirkPA, to relate the metal detecting circumstances. Hmmm, the temperature was 25 degrees. The wind was blowing at a roaring 30 m.p.h.. Hmmm, oh, the windchill was around 0, so take that into metal detecting perspective (frostbite, hypothermia, death, etc.). The ground had 3 inches of snow, so take that into metal detecting perspective (the sun was shining - snow-blindness). Also, the dude on the weather station predicted, "Whiteouts will be occuring at varying times, so any outside activity, such as hiking, walking, or detecting should be forbidden. Be wise, unless you are hardcore at what you do." :D ;D

So, when our alarm clocks chimed in, zoyboy and I were already stating, "We live for days like these. We live for days like these." If you can believe it, we were super excited about getting out and proving how hardcore we are. Folks, we knew it wasn't going to be the typical saunter through the park, so we decided to prepare for the day (two sweatshirts, two sweatpants, and our metal detecting fever). If we came unprepared, hypothermia would occur along with frostbite of our limbs. Before I relate the account, zoyboy and Silver Zeus didn't wear gloves. :D

Back to the morning: at 7:50 a.m., Paco called and related this, "Kirk, I'm not going, man." My reponse was, "Paco, you know I must go. I am harcore, man! I live for these moments!" After that brief moment in time, zoyboy, Silver Zeus, and I went out for some brrrreakfaassst at McDoooonalds. :D

After the meal, we headed for the site. Along the way, we were joking it up. I believe there were about 5 "One-Liners" (jokes that usually induce extreme laughter) stated during the 15 minute trip. :D :D :D

While at the site, we geared up and walked out to the field. Silver Zeus said something like this, "You guys should have sunglasses...extreme snow-blindness!" Zoyboy then said something like this, "Don't worry about that snow-blindness. I want to focus on my signals." (stated in a John Walter voice). For about 5 minutes, zoy was relating numerous John Walter jokes. Most of them pertained to Mr. Walter "Going allll year" and "I'm not after them newer coins"-type jokes. :D :D :D

After about an hour of no signals, I started to survey the land. That was when I decided to take my land surveying into effect, so I headed for the land that my metal detecting eyes had surveyed. LMAO I was glad that I did because I started to get the typical iron signals that usually signify a structure. I gridded the area and after hour, I had some relics in my bag. The belt buckle was found at a depth of 1". I am thinking it is from the early-1800s. I also found some other old-looking artifacts. Does anyone know what the other relics are? They look to be Colonial-era, but I am not that sure.

Oh, before I forget, while sweeping in the homesite area, a whiteout happened. Zoy was about 20 yards from me and before it came through, I could easily see him, but once the extreme weather event happened, I could not. LOL Oh, to top that off, the wind was blowing super hard and I could not even see my detector (which I must state was in my right hand). LMAO Also, to add to the event, my nose started to bleed. At first, I thought it was just snots, but boogs aren't red. :D LMAO I just kept sniffing back the blood and continued to metal detect (totally ignoring the whiteout and just focusing on that next VDI number). After 30 minutes, I could finally see where I was heading. LOL

The day soon ended after that. We all met at the treasure vehicle (I was the creator of this term, but have seen other dudes passing it off as their own humor :D). :D ;) ;D :D Zoyboy and Zeus both related to me how they had also found some homesteads in the field, but only came away with buttons.

All in all, we proved how dedicated we are to this hobby. I have heard other dudes call themselves, "hardcore," but seriously, I would like to see them come to Penn-sa-vain-ya and join the 3 nuts (zoy, Silver Zeus, and KirkPA) in REAL hardcore detecting. LMAO If they can pass the test, they are HARDCORE. ;) :D

Take care, my friends, and enjoy the rest of the day!

Kirk

Here is a pic of the relics and belt buckle: Any ideas on the age of the buckle? What about the other artifacts?

Thanks, guys, for the replies. I am glad we got out today. We probably walked about 4 miles today, so our bods are thanking us. :D

Zoyboy has some great research for the future! We can't wait to obtain permission for them and find some nice coins! ;) :)

Looks like you took a walk in the park (lol). Nice finds. I don't know much about colonial finds, but if I had to guess, I would guess that your buckel is off of a shoe. Keep swingin... Always enjoy the posts.

When I saw the word "real" in the title I thought maybe it was a play on words. Alas, no Spanish wilver and yes, you are hardcore.

Glad to see you haven't given up the hobby. You guys are definitely more hard core than I am. I'll probably start detecting again in June. :D :D OK....maybe late March/ early April. Ever since I got frostbite that year on Everest, I've had an aversion to the cold. ;D

Kirk,
Glad to see a post from you. No coppa, but definitely dedicated. ;D

Good job on the snow hunting :)
How does the metal detector work with all the snow and frozen ground? Does it detect as deep? Heck I might have to go give it a try :)

Thanks, bud, all of the sweet replies are greatly appreciated. :D Oh, it is actually supposed to be a coppa hitting off of my head. :D

Hmm...I wondered why you kept snapping your head back while swinging with the fever; it must have been the drippin' bloooooood. :D

Folks, days like this are considered our home field advantage. Just like the Green Bay Packers love to play in the -15 F temps, we love to relic hunt the suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuper frigid days. :D We ain't no wine-sipping, dainty wussy boys. :D ;D :D
