Harmonica, Mouth Harp, Finial, & ???

Hey Ya'll,
Since the monsoon finally let up today, I was able to dig in and around a Civil War camp. It was not a great day, but I was happy to be able to find both parts to the CW Harmonica blade. The IH Penny is nice, but I shouldn't have cleaned it; my first and last cleaning. I don't have a clue about item #2, but it looks very familiar. The Finial is iron with a different non-magnetic tip. Could this have been a flag finial? Any thoughts on the metal tip? I scraped a small portion of it, and it looks gray, which is why I thought pewter. Any ideas and help would be appreciated. Thanks, Breezie

Breezie,#3 is a replaceable, tooth for a rock saw,I operate one at work on a normal basis, and will get some pictures Monday. Its basically a tractor with a huge midevil looking wheel on the back that turns and cuts rock or pavement. In hard rock we change those teeth out every couple of hours.Yours is new as in never been used. :icon_thumleft:

Thanks Kuger. Every rock saw I've ever seen looked like a giant skill saw, but I'm not very versed in heavy equipment. ;D I GOOGLED for some pics, but couldn't find any so I look forward to seeing yours. What is the metal on the tip?

Ahhhhh, do you want me to mail you this one??? lol. . .just kidding. Thanks for letting me know what it is. I feel safe now about throwing it away. Breezie

Rando, the #3 thingie is not saying piston to me. It has a very sharp point at the bottom, and almost looks like it could be some type of dial. The side arms are broken. I know I've seen something like this, but can't place it. Hope you're feeling better. Breezie

You mean you've gotten out breezie?
Our fields west of you are still soaked.
Great finds
Jews harps are the oldest known instruments to man.
The Jew's harp is known world-wide by many different names, depending on the country of origin.
Some examples are:

England - Gewgaw
Germany - Maultrommel (which means mouth drum)
Japan - Koukin
Russia - Vargan
Siberia - Khomus
Philippines - Kumbing and kubing
Italy - Scacciapensieri
Norway - munnharpa or munnharpe
France - guimbarde
Bali - genggong

I thought I'd throw that in. Just incase you may need to ask for one in another country. ;D

I was going to say it was a tooth to a trencher as they are about the same. I checked the link you attaches . Never seen a rock saw like that but have run a vermeer trencher before. I think it had a 6 ft wheel on it. I hated that thing
