Well. Have you?

And just to show that I am not picking-on Garrett, I wonder if anyone has had an email answered by ANY metal detector rep? If so, tell me about it please.

For me, I've started reading the various metal detector advertisements, and I see that they make very few claims/statements about their products performance characteristics.

Jeeze. I could nail a paper plate to the end of a broomstick and attach some fisher price radio headphones and almost make the same statements most actual metal detector producers make.

Mary and Melinda answer all my questions at Garrett.

Yeah, I was gonna post on the "official" Garrett forum, but then I decided to contact them directly through email. No response in 2 weeks. I can't imagine how long it would've taken for a response to a forum question. >:(

I'm not asking for TH'ers who have experience with reps who answer phone questions.

I'm asking for info on reps who answer email (and maybe "forum") questions.

I'v received EMails to Questions, by
every Manufacturer I ever Contacted.

Garrett, Whites, Minelab, Fisher

I'v never received an answer or comment
on any forum from any Manufacturer.

Kellyco has answered questions for me
on a Forum in the past.

Thanks Jeff. Can you share an example of the type of question they answered for you?

(You can omit your questions that pertained to sizes, colors, shapes, weights, availability, purchasing, etc.)

Specifically, were any of your metal detector questions related to performance characteristics?

What was the question, and what was the rep's answer to it?

Been too long ago to remember Specifics.

But mainly Questions on Problems,
& Remedy's . & Manuals

I emailed Garrett a few weeks ago about and extention cable and got a reply.
Before that around last Christmas I emailed Garrett about buying some arm cuffs and got a reply.
I emailed Whites about a 1.5 years ago about replacement rubber pads and got a reply.
I email Tesoro about 6 months ago about buying some battery holders and got a reply back. They said no.

Maybe something about your email sends it to their spam folder?

some of My Memory Came Back

Everytime I eMaild Minelab about a a Cracked part,
They would send me several Free Replacements.

When I Emailed Fisher for a Manual,
& Technical Info
They not only Mailed me a Free Manual, &
told me what I needed to know.
But they also Mailed me a Hat & Pen

When I emailed Whites, they either sent me the parts I needed
free or told me how to Ship for Repair
.

With Garrett it was for a Manual & Plastic Meter Cover.
They Mailed me a Manual,
& Charged me for the Cover,
but let's be real, The Garrett is from the 80's

I used to have to Write Letters to RELCO
and instead of giving me answers, they would send
me a catalog
and a tiny foreign copper
coin tinier then a 3 cent piece :P

Hello? Performance characteristics please!

My unspoken assumption here is that your metal detector is working with no problems. I'm NOT asking about how the reps handled your warranty problems, broken parts problems, manual problems.

Let's also eliminate battery questions. Almost every manufacturer seems to love listing the performance characteristics of the batteries in their machine, such as:

1. Battery charge lasts about X hours during maximum use.
2. Don't leave batteries in the detector more than X months long.
3. Use only X type of batteries for best performance.
4. Alway recharge your batteries for max performance.
5. Insert batteries correctly or risk damaging your detector.
6. Don't subject batteries to outdoor temperatures in excess of 100 degrees.
7. Don't allow batteries to get wet.

Although the above are great examples of performance characteristics, they are nearly universal to all battery operated equipment. (Also, metal detector manufacturers don't manufacture batteries, do they?)

i emailed Garret about a year ago with a question about the ground balance on my GTI 2500 and they emailed me the answer the next day. is it possible the email didn't go through? they are usually pretty good with answering questions for their customers. the detector business is relatively small and is full of fierce competition. most manufacturers go out of their way to make their customers happy. otherwise they wont be around very long.

hollowpointred - I emailed Garrett several times with the same email.

Can you give me a general idea of what your ground balance question was, and generally what the reps reply was?

yeah. i asked them if i adjust the ground balance in the non motion, all metal mode on the 2500, if that setting will stay in place when i switch back to a discriminate mode. i thought that maybe it went back to the auto adjust when i was in discrim. they said that if you manually adjust in all metal it will stay that way in discrim as well. i hope you are able to get an answer from them. :)

Thanks hollowpointred. We're getting closer to a performance characteristic type of question and answer from a rep.

Any others?

I answered the first question you made in your first post. Sorry I couldn't help you.

I saw your response. I figured you would clarify it eventually. You didn't, so here goes:

HOW did Mary & Melinda answer your question(s)? By phone? By email? By forum post?

What performance characteristic type of question did you ask them?

What was their answer?

I have emailed Tesoro several times and they have immediately responded.

I have also emailed Minelab three times and they responded the same day.

I emailed Whites and never got a response. I was asking a few specific questions about detector models and features.

I emailed Fisher and never got a response but did get a catalog in the mail and the same for Garrett.

Hope this helps.

You first question had nothing to do with performance.
All my questions to Garrett, Whites and Tesoro were for the purchase of parts and the alteration of parts. I modify detectors. All questions were answered by email within 2 days. I told you I was sorry I didn't answer you secondary questions of performance. I did answer you very first question.

Thanks mastereagle22. It's great to hear that some of the dealers routinely answer their email.

Howdy khouse. Thanks for participating. As in many posts, some get modified and some get hi-jacked.

If I continued to answer ONLY the first post, after it had been modified (more than 18 posts in), well... that just wouldn't make any sense to me.

I have read some of your other posts on this board, and have been very impressed.
