Found this hatchet in Western New York and am curious as to what you folks would date it to be and if it would have been a hewing hatchet. Thanks for looking and for any help.

Interesting hatchet head... Were there any Indian villages in your area or was it found on old farmland?

The area is on the shoreline of Lake Ontario a few miles East of Fort Niagara. There was military and Indian activity all over that area and the land was probably used for farming in later years. I would like to know if the design is 18 century or when. I have found two trade axes near my home which is 8 miles South of the lake shore.
