Found this weekend in a new spot where a couple 18th century early 19th century buttons were found. When I first dug it because of the weight I thought it was a flattened out musket ball. It was encrusted in a hard orange clay but when I was not so carefully picking the clay off I broke off what looked like a stem! After cleaning further I realized it was a button. Thick, heavy and what looks like maybe brass where I scratched the surface. Any help as always will be appreciated. Thanks for looking.
