Could be a type of one of these. Just don't churn much butter these days.

If I had a rug or a bear for that matter that needed beating I would probably want one of these to beat it with and a good preposition to end this sentence with. Rug beater sounds a good as anything I can think of. Monty

i also think its a paddle for churing butter

I thought it resembled a paddle to stir maple syrup or apple butter as it cooked. :dontknow:
But usually anything made to use like this wouldn't have a squared off handle.

Sure looks like a rug beater to me? :dontknow:

Could of been used to make mash.

It looks more like an antique stirring paddle for either cooking pots or either washing clothes pots. Most of the antique rug beaters I've seen & sold were wire with wooden handles. Neat find, Breezie

I like dano sverige's idea and lennon631's endorsement . It seems too heavy to be a rug beater . I bought it at a barn sale this morn . And like Breazie mentioned - most rug beaters have a wire thing .

the lady having the sale said she could not remember how she and her husband acquired it , but he always left it near the kitchen door .....she said he called it ''the club''

I got it for $2.00

I agree with Dano :icon_thumleft: and lennon
A Pacific Island war club.

I think you could be pleasantly surprised how much it is actually worth.

There is a huge variety in styles of club weapons amongst the many cultures in the Pacific.
Each one is hand-made so variations are innate.

My first thought was, that the club is of Fijian origin, but I'm not an expert.

That's exactly it. Each one can be one of a kind but I do think those who said Pacific Island are correct in origin and style. It's much closer than Oceanic or others and after a lot of searching, I agree with all of you as well, it's a Pacific Island war club.
