Was dancing between the raindrops again today. I escaped and went out into bright sun and humidity.
Anything chiming in was 8 inches plus. The areas I was digging in made it extremely hard to pop big plugs,
so I went for the shallow end of the pool. The results proved that. I probably left 20 or so deep ones behind today.
Oh well, there's always the next dig right!
17 gram fishing weight. Was 6 inches down...

Is the ground that hard already?

Yeah where I digging, below was a clay chunk base (not black earth crumble) and thick thick sod. I wish my lawn had that much thickness. The park was created in the mid 50's but they let it go a little at one end. Weeds and dandelions aplenty too.

Clay is a challenge.
My field had a brick yard they loved the clay so much.
So it gets pretty hard when it dries.

Nothing worse then hitting soil with your tool and you immediately get stopped. We're just getting our first rains of the Spring and the ground is parched here. Bricks, yikes...railroad stones (crushed basalt) are impossible to enjoy digging into as well. Ugh!
