Hi all! I am from Alabama and just really interested in anything old. Do any of you know what this is? I found it close to a creek close to my home IMG_4683.webpIMG_4681.webpIMG_4680.webp

Welcome. It could be a bearing block for a bow drill.

Thanks for the welcome! I was told by an old timer that it could be a Native American stone for making war paint or ceremonial face paint.

I sort of feel like this is not an artifact. I believe it is a concretion that has spent time in moving water. As far as what a concretion looks like, they can look like nearly anything, but here are some examples:

....Hi JoeyZR1.....I respect all of the suggestions given. I kind of like Campfire's bearing block idea...Looks like it would fit in the palm comfortably. If I FOUND IT, I would use it that way !
....Welcome , Both of you from Southern California !
