I was surprised with a bounty hunter platinum for Xmas. It might not have been the detector I would have picked but after reading reviews it seems like it'll fit me well. This is my first detector and I'm kinda happy someone made the decision for me as I was over analyzing every aspect.
Took it out to my backyard and flipped her on. Set my ground grab and started by only discriminating out the bottom two clicks. I was running sensitivity on 8 as we have about 5" of snow on ground, amazingly the ground is super soft under it. So I got a few really good repeating dime signals at 83. Dug all of them. The first one I dug was scrap aluminum at 6" and the second was a license plate at about 9"+ never found the third. What settings should I run to help reduce the trash? Since I'm only doing my yard right now I can afford to start off extremely selective. Plus, the wife was looking at me funny as I kept digging more and more dirt.

I got the platinum in september for my birthday what I have learned on mine is to dis everything up to zinc then notch in nickles I use sensitivity setting of 6 I live in missouri so that might make difference on settings have also found that large deep items will come up in high silver range I can usually tell zinc pennies quarters and nickles this machine is good but takes some learning which I am still doin happy huntin enjoy

Thanks for the info. I figured I had sensitivety too high but figured since the coil was 5" off ground to begin with I'd get away with it. Going to plant a few coins about 4" down to see what sensitivety I can get away with. Find any gold or silver with yours yet?

Btw, the night I got the detector my wives gma told me her father had been a stasher of gold and silver all over their old farmhouse. House burned down in the 70s and land was sold to nearby farmer. Land is as it was back then and super secluded even though its only 2 miles from the city. Looking forward to hitting that when I become more advanced with the unit. The researching has been the fun part so far.

First time out first thing found was a nickle which seem hard to find also alot of zinc pennies and clad change I have found couple pieces of silver jewelry and silver dimes no real gold yet found 10k gf tiger eye ring if you look at some my post you see some my stuff

Seems like the platinum will be a good intro to mding for me. Have you used the coil under and water yet?
