Help ID Mason's jar....

That's a decent find, I think- especially since you have the lid there too (which is probably why you found it w/ a metal detector, no?). Here's some information which will help you out I think. Yakker

Thanks for the site. Still can not figure a date out yet. Yes the lid is the reason I found it. To bad it wasn't full of silver.
 

I think your mason jar is a Boyd's mason jar from the late 1800's. The porcelain lid underneath the metal lid most likely has writing. I have found one in a trash pit from the mid 1880's through late 1890's. Underneath the metal of the lid, there is porcelain lid. Here is a photo of a porcelain lid (Not sure if it is the same kind of jar as yours though). Great find!
