I am no help let me just say that at first. but wow man never seen one like that! close to home i hope to find something that interesting!

The few things that are slightly different (in my eyes) are

The rims are different. Mine is thicker than his.

The rope around his seems thinner and spread out more. Mine seems thicker and closer together.

The anchors seems a bit different. Mine seems a bit longer at the U part of it.

The wing doesn't end at the same spot over the anchor. His line up at the end of the U part of the anchor and seems to be pointed at the body. Mine seems to end at a different spot. and be pointing down.

It may be my imagination, but that is what I see.

So the question is.... Who got the real one?

Have one of these as well. Found it a couple of years back and my research at the time led me to believe it was Navy...

The original one posted in this thread is a modern civilian blazer button...probably 1960s. The iron back is a good indication of this.
 

Unfortunately I agree. I only know this because I found one exactly like it and spent a good deal of time figuring that out
