Digger, Congrat's on the plate. That is one nice piece of American History. And personal too. It's fantastic that there is not only a name on the plates face, but that it is still readable after all these years. That is great too that you were able to track down the plates owner. Again, Well Done all around and Thanks for sharing this with us.
 

Just a guess brother,I don't think it is a crossbelt because the name would be at an angle. I think, just a guess now, it may be identification from valise or trunk, it looks like it was attached to leather. I am most likely way off base.

I've been told it's not a cross belt plate. I was told it's a luggage tag. It was out in a field that we hunted one time. I was wondering about it.
