Help identify button

Hey guys. Found this detecting today near a site that has roots in the mid to late 1800's and possibly even earlier.

I'm assuming this is a button because of the two small holes in the center. It weighs about half as much as a 3 ringer civil war bullet, heavy for a button. It has no markings on it.

Any insight into its age or what type of clothing it was worn on would be great. Thanks.

Is the back filled with lead? Is it heavy for it's size?
