Ok so far 2014 has been the button year all these have been found this year except #6 it was found from a civil war era tavern site it has the rich gold colour on the back.

numbers 1,2,4 are from one site
numbers 3,5,7,8,9 are from another

these are from a late 1800s home
#1 gilt im assuming to crusty to tell
#2 eagle with stars
#4 no markings

these are from what i was told was a mid 1800s home im thinking earlier with the finds im finding
#3 colonial im assuming
#5 has a weird backwards S or a 2 and an I and its very heavy
#7 says treble gilt
#8 im assuming is my first tombac ???
#9 large and heavy no markings

both sites are homes

Thanks for any info you all can give me

#9 is a hem weight , sewn into the bottom hem of dresses ,coats and curtains to keep them from blowing up.

Great finds. I agree with taz that #9 is a hem weight. Had some of those myself. #8 does look like a tombac. I know there is a way to help dating them by how the shank was attached. # 1 looks like there may be some writing. Can you get a closer look at #2 (the eagle and stars) #5 looks old and really cool!

Congrats on the buttons. I love finding them because I feel they have more of a personal history with the owner than a coin which traded hands so often.
