Hi ya'll!

Ok, well at least I think it's unique lol!

A few years back a friend of mine gave this to me. He was a construction worker and found it where they were working. I am thinking it is a pestle? I find it pecular that it seems to be made out of iron pirate (fool's gold). If so, how was it formed? If you notice in the pictures, there is a hand shape and fingernail indentations. It is like it was squeezed into this shape.

Would love to hear some ideas! I have been wondering for years!

Welcome to TN.

Your piece has a shape consistent with a pestle, but if it really is made of pyrite, I suspect it is a natural geofact. A pestle made of pyrite is improbably, as grinding pyrite dust into one's cornmeal would not be very tasty (or healthy).

I was trying to some research on this. Could it be made of granite? It does have finger and fingernail indentations. On the smaller end there is some residue which looks like it fossilized.

Are you sure it's not a large Corprolite, which is fossilized Dino poop.

Well, after view photos of Coprolite, I am going to have to say negative lol, unless that particular animal ate rocks! Would be halarious if it did turn out to be a turd though! This piece has weight to it like a rock.

Pretty wild. I have some iron pirate and its all in a slab form. I would have to guess "a la natural"
made by nature. Amazing how some rocks just seem to fit though. You may never know it could have been a decorative item they waved at their neighbors. Welcome to T-Net !!

I found almost the same stuff in southern Indiania.

Ok, I have another question, what animal do you think it's from? I think it resembles a human turd. I am going to leave it laying around as a conversation piece lol. We used to call it "Gold Member"!

So what do you make of the finger indentions???? Lol

not to mention the finger marks! EWWW! maybe it was a cave man. He was taking a crap, and a dinosour came running after him... then he had nothing else to throw... so he threw his poop!! HAHAHAHAAA!!! *giggles*

I still think ancient man waved it at his neighbors. Too funny and good I.D !

This does not look like "Dino Poop". I believe it to be Pyrite, its the unusual "Pine Cone" form & very nice.

Cheers
Dan

Ok, I am taking a guess at a Crocodile poop? I found this photo and it closely resembles it? (I do like the pine cone idea better)
