If you want to detect salt water - wet beach or in the water, no simgle frequency detector will be much good. The AT is a single frequency detector. Any of the FBS or BBS Minelabs will do. The Safari is an FBS detector.

Thanks Rick! Any other reasons pro/con?

These AT Pro does ok in the dry sand and some wet. If going into freshwater no problem with the atp.
The Minelab will do better in saltwater but not waterproof.

Personally I like the minelab better than the AT, but with any detector you need to learn it. The only down side on the safari is the weight, but a simple sling relieves that shortcoming.

As for water proof just don't dunk the housing. If you want to dive with the detector neither one of these machines would workout.

Using my safari this morning on the beach. I came home with $4.19 in clad, a working Seiko in excellent condition watch, 2 hot wheels, a lighter, and a copper pin that was a foot down.
Not a bad morning.:occasion14:

See you on the sand!

Love my Safari, these are my good find in the last two years mostly in so called hunted out parks. The Safari takes time to get use to so don't give up.
