My husband and I went medal detecting this afternoon on property we lease, which is across the levee on the Mississippi River side. The great flood of the 1920's wiped the town off the map. We have found many bottles and blacksmith tools in the past. Found many nails, some square and some round. Today, I found this piece of very corroded/rusted iron. I'm afraid to clean it bc the land I found it in experiences the rise and fall of the MS River. It's very brittle. I'm also needing help with identifying another piece of iron I found off a old plantation. Its the pointy thing ha! Thanks yet again on y'all's expertise:)

Sounds like a good place to detect. The item in your first photo looks very much like a sickle mower guard.

Really! How interesting! My husband grew up on a farm and he said he's never seen one that small. Wonder if its old? I looked at some images but no match due to size. I'll keep looking since I have nothing else to do haha! Thanks y'all :)

Here is a photo of a sickle head that attaches to one of those 2-wheeled garden tractors. You can see that the size is close. (yes I actually went out in the cold and snow, and actually got this picture with just the flash from the camera).

Oh my goodness!!! Hope you don't catch a cold bc of me! We rarely get snow that actually sticks to the ground ha! Yes, I can see the similarities. Thank you!!!

The bottom pic looks like a link of old chain.

The second item could be the center part of a turn buckle but the very center part of it doesn't look quite right. Usually it's open, but yours looks like it has something attached there. Maybe a handle instead?

That looks similar! I've decided to clean it up so I will post the after pics when I'm done. Thank you!!

I also found a copper/brass thing today and i need help identifying! I'm clueless as to what it could be. The 1st photo on second row is how it looked when I found it. Thanks!

I can also see a turnbuckle in that. A built in handle would be great, rather than using a hammer or crowbar.

The items listed first look like cleats off an old boat or boat dock possibly.
