Hi all!

Posted this in Today's Finds. 125 views but no replies. Thought that I'd try here.

I was metal detecting at a friend's house in Staten Island. We found a couple pennies, 2 silver quarters (1948 and 1961) and this interesting button. It has some nice design work on it, but I'm just not a button expert. Has anyone seen a button like this before or does anyone have an idea of how old it is?

Thanks!

Kevin

Seeing the back may help if possible. Is it attached to the thing behind it?

its hard to make out alot of detail, But looks like a patriotic button. it also looks to have a back attachment which reminds me of a tunic belt support button.

Thanks all! Sadly, the back of the button is really caked with dirt. Light scrubbing with a toothbrush didn't help at all. You can see two areas around the edge where the dirt/minerals are protruding.

The silver metal in the back is just a clip I used to hold the button upright.

If you have suggestions for how to clean it up, I'll give it a try and take some more pictures!

At the top of the button, there is a crown and dead center there is a shield. The shield may have a cross in the middle of it. Hard to tell. Very interesting little button. Hopefully someone can assist!
