A friend of mine was looking at some of my finds and asked what coin was this I did not know I dug it a few years back on the Arkansas river at Pittsburg landing on old chimney road. I know the French, and Spaniards both had settlements there. I put the lady Liberty in photo to show the size it sure looks like a coin it's very thin purty much wore out. just a bit larger then a dime can't make out much detail I am quiet sure it's silver Thanks for looking and helping us Jess

Similar looking I think. Ottoman coins were pierced as it was a long standing tradition for the bride to wear jewelry and other ornamentation made up of actual circulating coinage. This is where many Ottoman coins gained their holes, from being pierced by jewelers and relatives of brides, using the money given by family and friends to the couple to make the ornaments that the bride would wear on her wedding day.

Interesting find!

The coin looks like a small Turkey silver coin.
It could be a 20 para or piastre of Mahmud II.
The coin's diameter appears 20.5 mm, and the date appears AH 1223 (AD 1808) with a regnal year 22-26.

:)

"... how in the world did it find its way to Arkansas"

Foreign coins were in use in the United States as "small change" until the 1850's.
