I have been using my Coinmaster GT for months now. I have used it alot in my backyard and have found a few coins usually not much older than the 60s. I found a 1910 wheat 4-5" down the other day. I am wondering if anyone can let me know what to look for for deeper coins? I have been slowing down my swings and focusing on a smaller area, most targets I find in the 7-12" range seems to be all iron so I usually ignore them. Could it be possible that maybe deeper coins show up as iron and I have been walking by them all along? Any help would be much appreciated.

All detectors lose the ability to ID at some point. 8" in the ground is about the norm for a detector that air tests 12". Tesoro's don't rely on a "digital" footprint, and do a better job at deeper coins.

I had a CoinGT. It is a deep detector. But mine was always .......nervous, is the best description. If it couldn't get a good lock, the numbers were everywhere, and on 8 tones it sounded like a calliope.

Yeah, im starting to think that maybe things 5+ inches that are jumping around usually ending up on iron I need to start digging.

Digging more deep iffys will be a good thing. Do you swing your coil over those signals in multiple directions? I'd go over them in an X pattern to see if I could get a better signal from another direction.

I usually run it in iron discrimination with tone ID on. Many times I notice the vdi will hit on something high but when I go to pinpoint it shows as deeper iron 7"+....I think I've trained myself to ignore these targets, but that might be the reason I'm not finding anything older I suppose. Any thoughts?

There may not be anything older..

not familiar with the gt, but if its like my mx5 having a depth guage, utilize it and if it pinpoints the size of a coin no matter the vdi dig it! Dont let your machine "think" for you, i am at fault of this also.

Jbrick,
I am new at MD and would like to know, how do you like your CMGT? I just purchased one and can't wait to use it. I had been using a prizm II, found a lot of stuff with it. I just felt that I could find more with a better detector. Thanks for help.
