Help with Id?

This appears to be cast iron, didn't need a major amount of cleanup. I dug it at the base of a tree. On the same site I dug square shanked 3" iron nails, in Chesapeake, Va. Numbers on the round section are either 1116 or 9111 depending on orientation. Thanks!

Maybe a trip piece for an animal trap?

I'm Gonna agree with the trap theory....looks like the actuator plate....

I think you nailed it. It could not be a steel trap pan because they were not made that way and it is way to thick. I have trapped for 50 years and I buy and sell all kinds of traps.
