Help with sons fossil creek find - copper spoon

My son finds all kinds of fossils, arrowheads and even a bison hoof in a nearby creek. Today he came home with an old copper spoon with a lot of detail in the handle. The lower part is twisted and flattened out but looks like it might have a ships mast and some letters and numbers. I don’t have a pic of the lower part but hopeful someone can help with the upper part

I think it’s a “Battleship Maine” souvenir spoon commemorating the U.S. Battleship Maine Destroyed Feb. 15, 1898. Would have been silver plated.
