Nice finds. The one is a oil lamp top where the wick goes. And the other is a lead seal. Congrats!

What's a lead Seal for?

Welcome he you find more great finds.... Hh

I am new too great finds keep looking my wife and I really enjoy this hobby ....should have been prairie dogs as much as we like to dig ......... maybe we were in a past life a couple of fancy free prairie dogs....lol

Lead seals were used for alot of things, including sealing merchandise and trunks. They would run a wire thru a hole in the latch (kinda like an old padlock) and connect the wires with a lead seal. Not so much for security, but to tell if the goods were tampered with.

The seal looks like it could be from the Erie rail road

Welcome to the hobby and keep hunting.

I am fairly new also and have only dug on my own property, but I am SO hooked. I like everything I find because it has a story in history. When I hit a prairie dog hole and find and item in it or nearby, I think those little critters are treasure hunters!

Your off to a good start !!
Keep @ it and HH !!
