Hello!
I am very new to the hobby of metal detecting. I recently quit smoking cigarettes, after about 17 years, and the money I saved from not smoking in my first 30 days bought my first metal detector, a Garrett Ace 250. I have been detecting now for about 10 hours or so total, 2 hrs here, 2 hrs there. To date I have found: * (mostly in Jewelry mode with some areas added)
15 - pennies (11 were 95%copper)
11 - clad dimes
3 - jefferson, non-wartime nickels
3 - rusty buckles or doorknob assembly parts (thick metal)
1 - toy pistol, all steel (PET brand) child size
1 - UW Badgers Super lighter, (1950's style flip up lighter)
5 - various metal pieces - rectangle piece; toy train, strip; telephone pole, random steel plates (license plate size, or smaller, very thick steel)
1 - gold colored skull ring (gold plated steel?) not solid - FIRST RING!!!!!!!
1 - Hispanic coin, 50 centavos - 1992
1 - lead sinker (all metal mode - beach)
1 - shotgun shell, old - coin mode - beach
19 - various soda cans
13 - modern pull tabs
6 - retro pull tabs (the actual PULL kind)
5 - bottle caps, various varieties
*** - misc. bits and pieces, too numerous to mention (but I DID keep it all)
I have documented the dates I have gone out, what I have found, etc.
I was hooked on my FIRST FIND!!!!!!
I just wanted to share with everyone, still hoping to find my first Silver coin, or Solid gold ring or chain, but for now, i LOVE my "treasure"!!!
I will be looking into joining my local metal detector club, right here in Madison.
Any tips, or "hot" spots from any Madison WI locals?
Thanks for any input, I welcome any and all tips and/or advice!!!!!
